PARIS, Jan 25 (AFP) - Helicopter manufacturer Eurocopter, a division of the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS), said Tuesday it expected a significant rise in sales in 2005 after reporting a seven percent gain for 2004.

Sales last year came to EUR 2.78 billion (USD 3.6 billion) from EUR 2.61 billion in 2003.

"We have strengthened our position as world number one in the civil and para-public sector, in orders and sales," said Eurocopter chief executive Fabrice Bregier.

"The company is going to take off in 2005 and 2006," he told reporters, adding that he expected double digit sales growth in the next few years.

The 2004 sales figures reflect the delivery of 279 aircraft, which accounted for 49 percent of the total result. Client services contributed 35 percent of the sales total and research and development 16 percent.

The company sees sales approaching EUR 4 billion in three years, most of it coming from military orders. It said its order book at the end of 2004 was valued at EUR 9 billion.
