PARIS, June 7, 2007 (AFP) - Soldiers from all the member states of the EU will join the military parade in Paris on the French national day next month, President Nicolas Sarkozy said Thursday.

"On July 14 I will invite a military detachment from each of the other 26 countries to parade on the Champs Elysees. It will be wonderful symbol," Sarkozy told Le Figaro newspaper.

German and British units have in the past taken part in the march-past.

In a shake-up of practice under his predecessor Jacques Chirac, Sarkozy also said he will forego the traditional Bastille Day televised interview from the Elysee palace, instead holding a press conference some time in advance.
