European competition enforcers cleared on Wednesday the 1.4-billion-dollar (1.13 billion euros) acquisition of French protection equipment company Sperian by US conglomerate Honeywell.

European Union regulators said the deal "would not significantly impede effective competition" in the market for protective equipment against a variety of work-based injuries.

The takeover also required the blessing of US anti-trust regulators, shareholders and the French government.
