PARIS, Oct 6 (AFP) - Eleven of the 17 ETA suspects arrested in southwest France on Sunday were being questioned by anti-terrorist police in Paris on Wednesday ahead of an appearance before an examining magistrate, justice officials said.

The alleged political leader of the Basque separatist group Mikel "Antza" Albizu Iriarte and his partner Soledad "Anboto" Iparragirre Genetxea were transported with nine others by plane to the French capital on Tuesday evening.

They were expected to be presented before a judge on Thursday at the end of the 96-hour interrogation period permitted in terrorist cases.

Of the six others arrested in a series of police swoops Sunday only two remained in detention in the southwestern town of Bayonne, police said.

In what the French and Spanish authorities described as an historic breakthrough in the fight against ETA, police also uncovered a major arms cache including two shoulder-launched ground-to-air missiles.
