PARIS, Nov 10, 2006 (AFP) - French electricity group EDF said on Friday that its third-quarter sales rose by more than 20 percent, continuing the growth seen throughout the year thanks to a strong performance in Europe.

Third-quarter sales rose 20.6 percent to EUR 12.4 billion. For the first nine months of the year, sales rose EUR 20.6 percent to 42.8 billion, EDF said in a statement.

"The group's sales growth was particularly dynamic in the European subsidiaries. This performance bears out our strategic choices," chief executive Pierre Gadonneix said.

In France, which accounted for around EUR 23 billion or 53.5 percent of the firm's revenues, growth on an identical asset base as 2005 was 7.4 percent, owing to increased sales of electricity and natural gas as well as price increases since mid-August, EDF said.
