EDF electrifies profits with foreign growth

PARIS, Feb 21, 2007 (AFP) - French state-controlled electricity group EDF reported on Wednesday a 73.5-percent rise in net profit to 5.6 billion euros (7.4 billion dollars) with a boost from international activities.Company president Pierre Gadonneix said the results had been achieved in "a context of high energy prices in Europe and of a moderate evolution of tariffs in France".

Excluding non-recurrent items, profits rose by 47.3 percent to 4.23 billion euros.

Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation, rose by 7.9 percent to 13.93 billion euros.
