Designer Galliano's anti-semitism trial opens in Paris
Fallen fashion idol John Galliano appeared in court in Paris on Wednesday at the start of his trial on charges he subjected cafe patrons to a drunken anti-Semitic rant.
The former chief designer at the house of Dior was dressed sombrely in a black jacket and loose-fitting silk pants with his dark hair swept back in a pony tail, and had left his trademark flamboyant hats at home.
Presiding judge Anne-Marie Sauteraud confirmed with the British couturier that he wanted the trial to be translated into English and an interpreter sat to his left in the stately wood-panelled courtroom as proceedings began.
