Depardieu nosing around for Hungarian vineyard

BORDEAUX, France, June 19 (AFP) - Gerard Depardieu is looking to make good a 10-year dream of buying a Hungarian vineyard, the French actor told AFP Sunday at the world's biggest big wine show under way in Bordeaux.

BORDEAUX, France, June 19 (AFP) - Gerard Depardieu is looking to make good a 10-year dream of buying a Hungarian vineyard, the French actor told AFP Sunday at the world's biggest big wine show under way in Bordeaux.  

"I am thinking of soon buying a vineyard of four to five hectares (10to 12 acres) in the Lake Balaton region with the Bordeaux wine-maker Bernard Magrez, most likely for producing red wine," he said at Vinexpo.  

"I've been thinking of this for 10 years or so, ever since I met Gabor Jardos, now sales director for the Szeremleuy wine company, while making a film in Hungary," he said.  

Depardieu added that the vines of the western French region of Anjou where he already has a vineyard, and those of Hungary have been related for more than six centuries, from when the two areas were united under the same king.  

The actor has some 20 wine-making properties in the world, many of them in association with Magrez. They are located in top-notch regions of France as well as in Algeria, Morocco, Spain, Italy and in California's Napa Valley in the United States.
