Death of French neonatal pioneer Minkowski

PARIS, May 8 (AFP) - One of France's chief neonatal experts, Alexandre Minkowski, has died in Paris at the age of 88, his family disclosed Saturday.

PARIS, May 8 (AFP) - One of France's chief neonatal experts, Alexandre Minkowski, has died in Paris at the age of 88, his family disclosed Saturday.

Minkowski was a pioneer in the care and treatment of the foetus, premature babies and the new-born.

He was also active in politics, serving as a regional councillor in the Paris region and campaigning for children in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Rwanda, ex-Yugoslavia and Vietnam.

He was the author of several books.
