DSK conviction 'very serious' for French image: minister
France's interior minister said Tuesday that it would be "very serious" for the country's image if International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss Kahn was found guilty of attempted rape.
Asked about the scandal by journalists during a trip to Tunisia, Claude Gueant said: "If the elements that form the basis of the charges and the decision by the court to detain him are confirmed that would be very serious, also for France's image."
Strauss Kahn is due to appear before a New York court on Friday following a hearing earlier this week. He is accused of attempting to rape a hotel chambermaid.
Before his arrest the IMF director general was a favourite to run as a socialist candidate in the French presidential elections in 2012.
