LISBON, May 5 (AFP) - At least two people were missing Wednesday after a French-registered catamaran washed ashore on a beach in northern Portugal, port officials said.

The vessel, the "Ylang 1", was found empty at dawn at Moledo a Caminha, located some 350 kilometres (220 miles) north of Lisbon.

It was last seen Tuesday afternoon with two people onboard although port officials have not ruled out more passengers were aboard.

Police said they had searched the boat with sniffer dogs to detect traces of drugs as part of their investigation.
