PARIS, Nov 27 (AFP) - A French court on Thursday rejected an appeal by Boualem Bensaid, an Algerian Islamic militant who was given a life sentence last year for his part in a lethal bombing campaign in Paris in 1995.

The appeal court confirmed that Bensaid should serve a minumum of 22 years in jail and also toughened his conviction by declaring him responsible for actually planting the bombs. At his original trial he was found guilty only of complicity in the attacks.

The three blasts at metro stations in Paris cost eight lives and injured nearly 200 people. They were claimed by the Algeria's extremist Armed Islamic Group (GIA).
