PARIS, Aug 19 (AFP) - President Jacques Chirac will go to the French island of Martinique next Wednesday to attend a day of mourning in memory of the 152 French residents who lost their lives in a Colombian jetliner crash in Venezuela this week, his office said Friday.

The crash of the McDonnell-Douglas MD-82 on Tuesday resulted in the worst French death toll of any aviation disaster.

A ceremony in homage of the victims is to take place in a stadium in Fort-de-France, the capital of the Caribbean island, with tens of thousands of Martinique's 430,000-strong population expected to attend.
