Chirac summons parliament to change constitution

09 February 2007, President Jacques Chirac summoned both parliamentary bodies, L'assemblée nationale and the Senat, to meet in Versailles on the 19th February to confirm and inscribe the abolition of the death sentence and the revised penal status of the president in the French constitution.

President Jacques Chirac summoned both parliamentary bodies, L'assemblée nationale and the Senat, to meet in Versailles on the 19th February to confirm and inscribe the abolition of the death sentence and the revised penal status of the president in the French constitution.

Deputies and senators will convene for a final discussion of Chirac's proposed reforms just a few days prior to the end of the parliamentary debates on the subject.
