China Southern takes off for France and Australia

BEIJING, April 4 (AFP) - China Southern Airlines will open international air routes from the southwestern city of Chongqing to Paris, Sydney and Melbourne this month, state media said Monday.

BEIJING, April 4 (AFP) - China Southern Airlines will open international air routes from the southwestern city of Chongqing to Paris, Sydney and Melbourne this month, state media said Monday.

China Southern will fly to Paris three times a week from Chongqing, which is situated at the head of the Yangtze River near the scenic Three Gorges area a major tourist attraction, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

Flights from Chongqing in China's Shizu county to Sydney would be daily, while services to Melbourne would come twice a week, said the report which quoted airline officials.

Downstream trips on tourist boats that ply the Three Gorges and which also go past the enormous Three Gorges Dam, start in Chongqing and usually end in the central city of Wuhan, in Hubei province.
