LILLE, France, Oct 18 (AFP) - French customs officers seized a truck carrying 135kg of heroin at the entrance to the Channel tunnel and arrested the Dutch driver, their service said Tuesday.

The haul -- hidden in sportsbags in the driver's cabin -- was discovered on October 12 in a roadside check near the port city of Calais.

It was one of the biggest heroin seizures ever in France. The street value of the drug was estimated at EUR 3.4 million.

The 42-year-old driver was a resident of Britain, the officers said.
