Central bank trims last quarter growth forecast

PARIS, Jan 16, 2007 (AFP) - The French central bank on Tuesday trimmed its fourth quarter growth estimate to 0.5 percent from 0.6 percent announced in December but continued to predict a 2.0 percent expansion for all of 2006.

PARIS, Jan 16, 2007 (AFP) - The French central bank on Tuesday trimmed its fourth quarter growth estimate to 0.5 percent from 0.6 percent announced in December but continued to predict a 2.0 percent expansion for all of 2006.

The national statistics institute INSEE has predicted growth of 0.9 percent in the fourth quarter of 2006 compared with the third and 2.1 percent for the year.

The French government for its part has said growth in the final three months of the year should come to between 0.6 and 0.8 percent and at the lower end of a 2.0-2.5 percent range for all of 2006.

The Bank of France also said its index measuring sentiment in the industrial sector fell to 104 in December from 106 in November.
