PARIS (AFP) - A private Catholic University is to offer instruction for trainee imams under an agreement with the Grand Mosque of Paris, the mosque's rector Dalil Boubakeur said Thursday.

The course at the Catholic Institute in the Latin Quarter of Paris will cover history, law, religion and culture, he said. However it will not include Muslim theology.

"The aim is to enable our future imams to benefit from a complementary training ... with the sole aim of encouraging their integration in the republic," Boubakeur said.
