French retailer Carrefour said on Monday it would sell its 42 outlets in Thailand to rival Big C, part of the French Casino group, for 868 million euros (1.19 billion dollars).

The transaction should be completed by the first quarter of next year, Carrefour said in a statement.

Present in Thailand since 1996, Carrefour operates 42 shops including 34 hypermarkets and ranks fifth for food sales with a six percent market share.
