Cambodia jails Frenchman over child pornography
A Cambodian court on Tuesday sentenced a French photographer to six years in prison for producing child pornography and selling the images of eight girls aged five to 13 on the Internet.
Mathias Cassar, 35, was arrested in March along with his Cambodian wife as he was preparing to take pictures of three underage girls at a rented house in the capital Phnom Penh.
Phnom Penh Municipal Court said Cassar would be deported after serving his jail term.
Cassar's Cambodian wife also received a six-year prison sentence for acting as his accomplice.
The pair were ordered to pay a total of 40 million riel ($10,000) in compensation to the eight victims.
Cambodia launched an anti-paedophilia push in 2003 to try to shake off its reputation as a sex predators' haven. Dozens of foreigners have since been jailed for child sex crimes or deported to face trial in their home countries.
