HEILIGENDAMM, Germany, June 8, 2007 (AFP) - US President George W. Bush was unwell Friday and had to skip a morning working session at the Group of Eight summit, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said.

A White House official said the president's condition was "not serious" and that it was believed to be a stomach virus.

"President Bush is slightly indisposed this morning and will rejoin the working meeting as soon as he can," Sarkozy said after an hour-long discussion with Bush, their first bilateral talks since the French leader was elected last month.

Sarkozy emerged alone from Bush's suite at a luxury hotel in the Baltic Sea resort of Heiligendamm where the G8 summit is taking place and spoke with reporters.

White House counsellor Dan Bartlett said Bush would be back at the summit meetings "as soon as possible".

"It's a stomach virus or something like that," said Bartlett.

Bush hurt himself at the Gleneagles G8 summit in Scotland in 2005. He was waving to police when he fell off his mountain bike, according to British police.
