Bulgarian village invites Sarkozy, Bruni on lucky love trip
A tiny village in Bulgaria has invited French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his new wife Carla Bruni to visit their mountain hamlet
SOFIA, February 14, 2008 - A tiny village in Bulgaria has invited French
President Nicolas Sarkozy and his new wife Carla Bruni to visit their mountain
hamlet and thereby ensure their marriage won't end in tears.
Inhabitants of Zaburdo, a village of a few hundred people in the heart of
the Rhodope mountains, claim no one there has ever been divorced.
Local tradition has it that newly-wed couples take a ride on Zaburdo's
ferris wheel as a way of sealing their union forever, mayor Valentin Cherpokov
So, twice-divorced Sarkozy, 53, and Bruni, the 40-year-old singer and
former supermodel he recently married after a whirlwind romance, have been
invited to come and take a ride.
"The Sarkozys are a couple whose love made headlines around the world,"
Cherpokov said, explaining that Sarkozy was very popular in Bulgaria for his
role for freeing six Bulgarian medics from a Libyan jail last July.
The French embassy in Sofia confirmed to AFP the receipt of the invitation.
