Bulgaria, France break up sex trafficking ring
Bulgarian and French police broke up a gang who brought Bulgarian women to France for sexual exploitation, the interior ministry in Sofia announced Friday.
The alleged ringleader, a 36-year-old man, was arrested in his hometown of Ruse in northern Bulgaria, while French police detained two alleged female accomplices in the city of Marseille.
Bulgarian authorities said some 200,000 euros ($224,000) from the sex trade had been wired into the ringleader's account from Marseille and other western European cities where the ring was active.
So far, authorities have identified seven Bulgarian victims.
The Ruse regional prosecution is due to decide whether to extradite the main suspect to France, where a probe into the case was opened last October.
