DIJON, France, Sept 7 (AFP) - A British man was being held in eastern France after telling police he was carrying his wife's body in the boot of his car, police said.

The unnamed man, aged about 60, is believed to have killed his wife in an argument in Britain, they said.

After stopping at a rest area on the A6 motorway near the eastern French town of Mâcon on Tuesday, he suffered remorse and told staff who then contacted the police.

More details were expected later Wednesday when the man was to be presented before a magistrate.
