LONDON, May 29, 2007 (AFP) - The British and French ministers for European affairs met Tuesday in London for talks ahead of next month's European Union summit, diplomatic sources said.

Britain's Europe Minister Geoff Hoon and Jean-Pierre Jouyet, who handles the same portfolio at France's foreign ministry, discussed institutional reform of the EU, a topic that is likely to be at the heart of the June 21-22 summit.

The two also discussed the Galileo satellite navigation system, which is designed to compete with the US Global Positioning System (GPS) but is facing funding problems.

Jouyet met with his German counterpart Reinhard Silverberg on Monday.

Tony Blair, who steps down as Britain's prime minister on June 27, discussed similar issues with Nicolas Sarkozy earlier this month, before his election as French president.
