Britain calls for investigation in Volkswagen emissions
Britain Tuesday called on the European Commission to urgently investigate the cheating of vehicle vehicle emissions tests following the scandal that has rocked German auto giant Volkswagen.
"We are closely monitoring the situation and have been pushing for action at a European level for more accurate tests that reflect driving on the road," Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin said in a statement."
"It's vital that the public has confidence in vehicle emissions tests and I am calling for the European Commission to investigate this issue as a matter of urgency."
France has also called for a Europe-wide investigation after revelations that hundreds of thousands of Volkswagen diesel cars in the United States were fitted with software that secretly thwarts pollution tests.
