Bouygues posts first-half profit jump of 92 pct

PARIS, Sept 8 (AFP) - The French telecommunications and construction group Bouygues said Wednesday that first-half net profit had jumped 92 percent to EUR 249 million (USD 300 million), and hiked its full year sales forecast.

PARIS, Sept 8 (AFP) - The French telecommunications and construction group Bouygues said Wednesday that first-half net profit had jumped 92 percent to EUR 249 million (USD 300 million), and hiked its full year sales forecast.  

Bouygues shares gained in early Paris trades, with Merrill Lynch saying: "Overall these are a solid set of results, with virtually all of Bouygues' assets outperforming our expectations and consensus estimates."  

Bouygues said it expects full-year sales of EUR 23 billion, up from EUR 21.822 billion a year earlier and up from earlier guidance of EUR 22.7 billion.  

The net profit figure was in line with analyst forecasts of between EUR 206 and EUR 399 million.  

Operating profit rose 38 percent to EUR 721 million, while sales, already announced, were up seven percent at EUR 10.904 billion.  

The group also said it was studying around 15 offers for its water, energy and environmental services unit Saur.  

Bouygues shares showed a gain of 1.30 percent at EUR 28.87 in late morning trades on the Paris stock exchange, while the CAC 40 index of leading shares was down 0.13 percent.
