LONDON, March 2, 2006 (AFP) - A nightclub bouncer was charged on Thursday with the murder of a French student in London and the attempted murder of two other women in the British capital.

LONDON, March 2, 2006 (AFP) - A nightclub bouncer was charged on Thursday with the murder of a French student in London and the attempted murder of two other women in the British capital.

Levi Bellfield, 37, was charged with six offences including the attempted abduction and false imprisonment of a fourth woman, state prosecutors said.

Amelie Delegrange, a 22-year-old student from Hanvoile, north of Paris, was battered to death on August 19, 2004 in the southwest London neighbourhood of Twickenham Green after a night out in a wine bar.

She suffered severe head wounds and died in hospital. Some of her belongings were found in the River Thames.

Bellfield was also charged with the attempted murder of an 18-year-old girl who was mown down as she walked home from a night out in May 2004.

A car knocked her down then reversed back over her.

Bellfield was also charged with the attempted murder and serious assault of another woman and the attempted abduction and false imprisonment of a fourth.

The Crown Prosecution Service, which oversees criminal cases in England and Wales, said Bellfield would appear Friday in a central London court.
