AIX-EN-PROVENCE, France, May 18 (AFP) - A bomb exploded early Tuesday outside an Irish pub in the southern French town of Aix-en-Provence, causing serious damage to the bar but no injuries, police said.

The one-kilo (just over two pounds) explosive device was set outside the front door of the Red Clover, located in a pedestrian area of the town not far from city hall. The force of the blast blew out windows in adjacent buildings.

Police said the owner of the pub had not received any threats and claimed not to have any known enemies. Investigators were looking into several theories, including that the pub owner was the victim of an extortion racket.
