AMSTERDAM — The bodies of a Dutch mountain climber and a guide were found under thick snow on Mount Blanc in France, it was announced Thursday.

The 27-year-old climber from Utrecht and the guide, 57, went missing on Saturday.

The Dutchman was with a group of other climbers, but became very tired while climbing one of the highest peaks in Europe. The guide decided to bring him back to the town Chamonix.

But the pair was caught in an avalanche during the descent, news agency ANP reported. Bad weather hampered the search operation and had to be suspended on Sunday.

It is unclear when the body will be returned to the Netherlands.
