BIARRITZ, France, April 7 (AFP) - Rugged blindside flanker Serge Betsen has turned down a chance to join English Zurich Premiership side Leicester by signing a new three-year contract with Biarritz.

BIARRITZ, France, April 7 (AFP) - Rugged blindside flanker Serge Betsen has turned down a chance to join English Zurich Premiership side Leicester by signing a new three-year contract with Biarritz.

"I want to finish my career here," said the 31-year-old capped 48 times by France.

Betsen also has a business interest in southwest France where he opened a spa resort in 2004.

Betsen said the club had agreed to individual training for the player to enable him to stay in contention for a place in the France 2007 World Cup squad.

"That's my ultimate goal," he added.

Biarritz said they had also promised to strengthen the side for next season but neither the player nor the club would reveal the terms of his new deal.

France internationals pick up between EUR 150,000 and 300,000 a year and Betsen would be expected to be in the top bracket already.

Biarritz are second in the French championship and last weekend reached the Heineken Cup semi-finals for the second year running when they beat Munster.

They play Stade Francais in Paris on April 23.
