Ben Ali clan member arrested in Rome
A nephew of the wife of ousted Tunisian leader Zine el Abidine Ben Ali was arrested by Interpol at Rome's airport Thursday for corruption and money laundering, the justice ministry said.
Moez Trabelsi was arrested following an arrest warrant by Tunis and was detained by Interpol agents at 0200 GMT, ministry spokesman Kadhem Zine El Abidine told AFP.
He will be held in Rome until his extradition back for judgement, the official said.
Moez Trabelsi and his cousin Imed were the objects of a French arrest warrant for stealing a luxury yacht belonging to French businessman Bruno Roger, the chairman of the Banque Lazard, in 2006.
The warrant was issued in 2007 but Tunisia refused to extradite them.
Moez Trabelsi was allegedly a favourite of the unpopular former first lady Leila Trabelsi, whose family is accused of enriching themselves through gross corruption and by embezzling state funds and intimidating business rivals.
