PARIS, Nov 18 (AFP) - French police on Tuesday arrested two suspected Basque separatists after a car chase in southwestern France, officials said.

The police became suspicious when they saw the two men, already driving a stolen vehicle, try to steal another car. Following a brief chase they arrested the two, who were allegedly armed and carrying false Spanish identity papers.

The suspects, whom officials believe belong to the Basque separatist organization ETA - campaigning for an independent homeland in Spain and France - refused to answer questions upon their detention.
