PARIS, June 28, 2007 (AFP) - President Nicolas Sarkozy on Thursday is to induct Barbra Streisand into the Legion of Honour, the nation's highest civilian distinction, during a formal ceremony at the Elysee palace.

"The president will pay homage to the immense talent of this multi-faceted accomplished artist," presidential spokesman David Martinon said.

Streisand, 65, gave a concert in Paris on Tuesday evening as part of her first-ever European tour, performing before some 10,000 fans including French first lady Cecilia Sarkozy.

She is due to perform in Dublin on July 14 and London on July 18, among others.

Sarkozy "will express the affection of the French people for this exceptional woman, who loves France, and who gave an unforgettable first concert in Paris after a career spanning 47 years," said the spokesman.
