At least one injured in attack on French Mali embassy
At least one person was injured at the French embassy in the Malian capital on Wednesday after an attack with an explosive device, a security source in Bamako and the French foreign ministry said.
The security source told AFP that a man "armed with an automatic pistol, an explosive device and a grenade" fired several shots at the embassy's gates and threw an explosive device.
"The man has been arrested, he is being questioned," said the source, who added that the man was an Arabic speaker.
The source said two Malians had been injured, but French deputy foreign ministry spokeswoman Christine Fages said only one person had been wounded.
"There was an explosion that was not accidental in front of the French embassy that injured one person, a Malian national on its staff, very lightly," she said.
"An investigation is underway," she said, refusing any further comment.
