PARIS, June 1 (AFP) - French police on Tuesday arrested an Algerian man carrying a loaded handgun in his carry-on luggage at Paris' Charles de Gaulle airport as he was undergoing a security check in the departure area, police said.

The 28-year-old man, who was headed for Algiers, told police he had forgotten he was carrying the 7.65-mm gun which was loaded with five bullets.

He was to be questioned by a judge late Tuesday and expected to be brought to trial in the Paris suburb of Bobigny Wednesday afternoon.
