Argentinean poet dies in French road accident

AVIGNON, France, July 27 (AFP) - Argentinean poet Saul Yurkievich, who contributed to a number of magazines in French, Spanish and English, died in a car crash in the south of France Wednesday, police said.

AVIGNON, France, July 27 (AFP) - Argentinean poet Saul Yurkievich, who contributed to a number of magazines in French, Spanish and English, died in a car crash in the south of France Wednesday, police said.

For unknown reasons Yurkievich, who was 73, lost control of his car which crashed head on into an oncoming truck at Caumont-sur-Durance, near Avignon. He died immediately.

Yurkievich had lived in France since the 1960s.

He taught Spanish literature at Paris VIII-Vincennes university and had published a critical edition of the work of Argentinian author Julio Cortazar.
