PARIS, Feb 28, 2007 (AFP) - The price of shares in French technology consultancy group Altran slumped by 8.19 percent to 6.28 euros in early trading on Wednesday in response to a profit warning.

The company, which had already disappointed investors in the second half of 2006, had issued a warning about a likely reduction of its margins.

The company, which has begun a recovery plan after some years of difficulties, had said on Tuesday that that for 2006 it would report an operating margin of about 6.0 percent, from 6.5 percent in 2005.

At brokers Credit Mutuel CIC, analyst Dov Levy said: "The scale of the warning and the weakness of the margin in the second half raise a certain number of questions about the capacity of the group to push up its margins in 2007 and 2008."
