PARIS, April 11 (AFP) - Industrial production in France fell 0.5 percent in February from a revised lower figure in January, statistics agency INSEE said Monday, alarming economists about this year's economic outlook.

Industrial output in January was unchanged from December, compared with a previous 0.2 growth estimate, INSEE said.

Manufacturing production in February fell 1.0 percent from the previous month.

The consensus estimate of economists polled by AFX News, the AFP financial news wire, for industrial production in February was established at a 0.2 percent month-on-month rise.

The weaker-than-expected performance was in line with concern that data would show a sharp quarterly slowdown in first-quarter gross domestic product.

It also raised the prospect of a further slowdown in the second quarter, dragging growth well below the current 2.0 percent official predictions, economists said.
