PARIS, Jan 23, 2007 (AFP) - The veteran French film star Alain Delon is to star in an action movie by award-winning director Johnnie To, with shooting to begin late this year in Hong Kong, the actor's office said Tuesday.

"Johnnie To asked me to be in his next film: I couldn't turn down an offer like that," the 71-year-old was quoted as saying in Le Parisien newspaper.

According to Delon's office, the title has yet to be decided but the actor met several times in Paris with the award-winning director of the "Election" gangster flicks to discuss details of the project.

Star of more than 85 films and producer of 27, Delon has recently moved away from French cinema, saying he no longer identifies with it, although he will appear next year as Julius Caesar in a film version of "Asterix at the Olympics".
