Airbus claims air show record with 730 jet orders

European planemaker Airbus celebrated the best week of sales in aviation history on Thursday, boasting of 730 orders for jets worth $72 billion (50 billion euros) at the Paris International Airshow.

"This success sets a new record for any commercial aircraft manufacturer at any air show ever," Airbus, a subsidiary of European aerospace and electronics giant EADS, said in a statement issued at the show.

"The commitments comprise memorandums of understanding for 312 aircraft worth $28.2 billion and firm purchase orders for 418 aircraft worth around $44.0 billion," it added.
