Pilot error led to the 2008 crash of an Air New Zealand passenger jet off the French coast during a test flight, killing all seven people on board, court-appointed experts said here Tuesday.

The crew lost control of the Airbus A320 as they tried to perform "a test in inappropriate conditions" above the Mediterranean near the town of Perpignan, said the experts' report, according to the prosecutor's office in Perpignan.

Five New Zealanders and two Germans were killed when the plane plunged into the sea.
