PARIS, June 29 (AFP) - Air France ground staff working on the tarmac and in terminal passageways at Charles de Gaulle airport are to hold wildcat strikes from Friday, causing brief disruptions to flights, unions and airport officials said.

The CGT union has called on the workers to hold stoppages without warning from that day to protest what it said was "chronic understaffing" and to press for pay claims.

Officials said the strike was likely to be widely followed with "correlating delays of short duration."

Drivers of Air France shuttle buses between the airport and Paris are also to take part in the strike, the CGT said.

The stoppages were timed to coincide with the start of the long European summer vacation period.
