PARIS, Sept 27 (AFP) - Unions at Air France on Tuesday joined calls for a day of protests against the French government's economic policies next Tuesday.

PARIS, Sept 27 (AFP) - Unions at Air France on Tuesday joined calls for a day of protests against the French government's economic policies next Tuesday.

An airline spokesman, however, said normal schedules should be maintained.

On Monday unions at the state-owned SNCF train operator and RATP Paris bus and metro company announced that they will take part in the strike.

France's five largest union federations have called for a day of strikes and demonstrations across the state and private sectors to demand pay increases and investment in public services.

They are also demanding the withdrawal of a new labour contract -- introduced by decree by prime minister Dominique de Villepin -- that makes it easier for businesses to fire workers during the first two years of employment.
