PARIS, Nov 29 (AFP) - Air France from Monday resumed flights to and from Ivory Coast after suspending them three weeks ago amid a wave of unrest in the west African nation that targeted French citizens and companies.

The airline said it would have two return flights a week between Paris and Abidjan instead of the daily service it maintained before the eruption of violence early November.

Gangs of youths loyal to Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo went on a rampage against French nationals and property in Abidjan after French peacekeepers there destroyed the country's tiny air force in retaliation for an air attack that killed nine French soldiers and a US aid worker.

More than half the 14,000 French residents in the country fled and many have expressed reluctance to return after witnessing the pillaging of their homes and, in at least three cases, being raped.
