PARIS, Sept 3 (AFP) - Air France cancelled Friday a scheduled flight from Paris to Miami because Hurricane Frances is expected to slam Florida in the next 72 hours.

PARIS, Sept 3 (AFP) - Air France cancelled Friday a scheduled flight from Paris to Miami because Hurricane Frances is expected to slam Florida in the next 72 hours.

"We are cancelling for obvious security reasons," an Air France spokesman told AFP.

The French carrier is to decide later in the day about flights scheduled over the weekend.

On Thursday, British Airways cancelled flights slated for Friday and Saturday to Orlando and Miami.

Thousands of people choked Florida's main highways after 2.5 million people were told to leave their homes - the largest evacuation in state history - as Frances barreled toward the eastern US coast.

"Preparations to protect life and property should be rushed to completion," said forecaster Lixion Avila of the Miami-based National Hurricane Center.
