PARIS, March 31 (AFP) - More than 35 flights from the two main airports serving Paris were cancelled Wednesday when some Air France pilots carried a strike over the sacking of one of their colleagues into its second day, airport officials said.

Passengers booked on the affected flights at Orly and Charles de Gaulle airports were re-ticketed onto other aircraft, the airline said.

Unions covering a minority of Air France's 4,000 pilots and navigators called the strike Tuesday after the company announced it was firing a pilot who was deemed to have too strictly applied flight safety procedures.

The airline confirmed it was going ahead with the sacking, and said the strike had only slightly compounded cancellations due to daily "scheduling reorganisations".

The stoppage was to end late Wednesday.
