PARIS, Nov 2 (AFP) - The first official medical report on the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat has confirmed that he does not have leukaemia, the Palestinian representative in France Leila Shahid said Tuesday.

"The first tests ... have allowed us to eliminate the leukaemia hypothesis," according to the text of the report read out in French by Shahid.

She said she was making the report public in agreement with the hospital authorities "in order to put an end to speculation about Mr Arafat's state of health."

According to the report, the tests showed Arafat to have a high level of white corpuscles in his blood and a low level of platelets. They also established "certain anomalies notably in his digestive functions."

But Shahid said that "in the last 72 hours his general state has improved."

The 75 year-old Palestinian leader has been treated for a blood disorder since Friday at the Percy military hospital outside Paris.
