Fifteen people were hurt, one seriously, on Tuesday when a German intercity train travelling from Frankfurt to Paris hit a dustbin lorry, police and rail operator Deutsche Bahn said.

The two front carriages of the train with 320 passengers on board derailed after colliding with the vehicle, which had slid onto the tracks, at around 1015 GMT near Lambrecht, 130 kilometres (80 miles) southwest of Frankfurt.

Deutsche Bahn said that the train was not travelling at high speed at the time. The stretch of line was closed until further notice and trains between Paris and Frankfurt were diverted through the French city of Strasbourg.
