LYON - Eleven people were injured when a coach taking French teenagers home from holidays in Britain crashed overnight in the south of France, emergency services said Sunday.

The accident happened on a motorway near the city of Lyon at 2.00 a.m. when the coach hit the concrete barrier of the central reservation for a reason not immediately known.

The driver and two teenagers were critically injured. Another eight injured passengers were also taken to hospital.

The coach had 16 teenagers aged 12 to 18 on board and two adults accompanying them.

"All the teenagers were French and they were coming back from holidays in Britain.

Twelve were due to be dropped off in Lyon and four in Grenoble," a rescuer said.
